Hi AshleyBoy,
Yes we were. Not college mates, school mates and not D&D but the far superior Dragon Quest.
I was Hirad. It is why I love him so well.
I'm still in touch with most of them. One remains my best friend. Two are very close friends. Others a little more sporadically. Those characters that appeared in the early years of The Raven include:
Hirad
Ilkar
Denser
The Unknown
Ras
Richmond
Thraun
Talan
Will (who was called Billboard Beggins)
Erienne (who was called Artemis)
There are probably more but it was a long time ago. Most other names of characters in the Raven are creations. I never lost a character. Hirad is technically still alive...
There you go. Ah, memories. _________________ 'A human with a hand outstretched in friendship carries the fangs of a taipan in his palm.' A TaiGethen saying. |

Bilboard baggins? ahhh. the imagination of teens never ceases to amase me!
in fairness, I used to call myself GrrBob the Barbarian. so i'm not one to talk.
Why was Eriennes name changed?
When myself and my Partner had our baby last year, She got to choose boys names, i got to choose girls.. i wanted Errienne for a girl, but in the end, we got a Jacob.
The Mrs (AKA "The Trousers") says that Erienne sounds French for Hairy Anne. but thats just her opinion (the uncultured swine) _________________ "Hey lazer-lips, your mother was a snow-blower" - Number Johny 5 |

Could you really name one of your children after the Raven though?
I know several chaps called Sol and Darrick... |

Well I don't know about children, but if I had a hot Mercedes, I might call it "ill-car".

I changed Artemis to Erienne because Artemis is the name of a Greek goddess and I didn't think it appropriate for Raven novels.
And he who named Billboard was well beyond his teens... _________________ 'A human with a hand outstretched in friendship carries the fangs of a taipan in his palm.' A TaiGethen saying. |

Also regards to Hirad.
I don't remember anyone else in any onf the novels described as a barbarian...
Does this mean tht Hirad is originally from western Balia? Perhaps he's from some Wesman Tribe?
or it to do with his fighting style? _________________ "Hey lazer-lips, your mother was a snow-blower" - Number Johny 5 |

I wondered that too, until I stumbled upon the Gazetteer. It explains Hirad's history. |

They're few and far between. More nomads than barbarians these days. From the Rache lands to the north of Balaia. You'll hear more about the barbarians during the elves books. _________________ 'A human with a hand outstretched in friendship carries the fangs of a taipan in his palm.' A TaiGethen saying. |
