If you haven't come across this site yet, please take yourself over there and join up.

The DGLA will be presented for the very first time in 2009 for the best Fantasy novel of 2008. The award will be given to a work written in the 'spirit' of the late, great David Gemmell, a true Master of Heroic Fantasy.

Voting for 2008 begins on 26th December. You don't have to be a member to vote but please join anyway to help us get up towards 500 members. Voting will select the short list which then goes on to be read by a judging panel (members to be decided).

The site itself has forums and all sorts, including a shop to buy your DGLA tee-shirt, should you want one.

The site address is:
http://gemmellaward.com/

Please join up. This is an award that we want to become the high-profile fantasy award each year. Your support now will help that happen as well as keeping the memory of the late, great Dave Gemmell very much alive.

this is not as a suck up, as i would always go with my gut on this type of thing, but your latest is the closest Fantasy book to DG's work i have read in ages, i found my love of fantasy on the wane over the last year.
But this latest book is another class James...seriously a huge well done.

The only other author i have read who comes close to his work and the sheer enjoyment factor is Conn Iggulden and his Ghengis series, its historic fantasy, but you could easily see Ghengis being Ulric, i know its who he based the character on and so that gives a comparison, the writing has the same pace and passion.....you should give Wolf of the plains a go and see what you think!

but again..Ravensoul...a huge thumbs up!

For me the first David Gemmell Award really does deserve to go to James.

There are others on the list that are good but Ravensoul really is in the spirit of David Gemmell.

Good work, skan... tell all your friends too. The more on board the merrier.

And thanks, ONG and Lizzy, really kind of you to make such comments. As you know, Ravensoul is part homage to the great man - brilliant that you both enjoyed it so much.

Cheers
James

Ravensoul definitely seems a worthy winner, and i'm glad an award was set up in the great mans honour.

Good Luck James! Ravensoul deserves the first ever Gemmell award

My vote was going for Ravensoul all the way when disaster struck!

Raymond E. Feist was on the list Surprised

And you know, it was actually painful to choose between the two. I've loved both the Raven and Magician series for years now, actually having started reading the originals of both series at precisely the same time.

BUT

My mind was made up when remembering how well known the characters of the Raven have become to me, and of course old Hirad couldn't let me down Wink

So my vote goes for Ravensoul!
