i enjoy the other two series but they are not a patch on the Sparhawk ones.

and in fact i only ordered them because i thought they were prequels to the Sparhawk books and i was majorly disappointed when they turned out not to be.

A David Eddings fan? A real one? Shocked

Ok, the Sparhawk books I can understand as I enjoyed them myself, kind of, but PLEASE tell me 'The Dreamers' isn't just 'not doing it' but is actually making you vomit. Awful, awful writing.

If you haven't already, read 'The Belgariad'.

I'm afraid that I have to agree with you on this, Drizzt. The Dreamers series is too full of 'clever' jokes, twee language, and it feels a little too self-congratulory for me. And the story just ain't that good. Which is a shame, as I was a big Eddings fan in my teenage years.

Silk is one of my favourite characters from the Belgariad, but there's no-one in the latest series who I really like. Shame, really. Crying or Very sad

There's nothing to like in the latest series. Horrid.

I totally agree w/ dolinare.

All tht stuff in the hobbit and lord of the rings seemed very unentertaining.

Dawnthief jumped in and I was hooked.

I was going to say 'The Hobbit' but, thinking back, would actually have to say that it was either Alan Garner's 'Elidor' or Joan D. Vinge's 'LadyHawke' (so much better than the film!) that got me hooked. Happy times... Very Happy

I used to read whatever Conan books I could get my hands on from the local library as a youngster but I think the seminal ONE book was Magician by Feist.

Pity that he seemed to peak with that book - I really enjoyed it, but the rest of his series never lived up to this. The best was the Empire series, which of course Janny Wurts worked on.
