I have all of the books and they are even better than the programs.

I'd recommend the books - the ones I've read have bene very good - Bernard Cornwell is a very good writer. I've read some of his other stuff and I've been impressed. _________________ If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine. |

some other stuff to try
Simon Scarrow: The eagle series, starts with under the eagle,
It is 42 AD, and Cato has just arrived in Germany as a new recruit to the tough Second Legion. Cato is assigned to the unit of Centurion Macro - a fearless, battle-scarred veteran. Cato will have to prove himself in the adventures that lie ahead. In a bloody skirmish with the local German tribes, Cato gets his chance to show that he?s more than a callow youth. But then the men discover that the legion?s next campaign will take them to a land of unparalleled barbarity - Britain
you dont need to know anything about the romans to love this, its like sharpe just set in roman times
Also
Conn Iggulden: Ghengis series: Starts with wolf of the plains
Synopsis
?Wolf of the Plains? is the much anticipated beginning of the ?Conqueror? series on Genghis Khan and his descendants. It is a wonderful, epic story which Conn Iggulden brings brilliantly to life. ?I am the land and the bones of the hills. I am the winter.? Temujin, the second son of the khan of the Wolves tribe, was only eleven when his father died in an ambush. His family were thrown out of the tribe and he was left alone, without food or shelter, to starve to death on the harsh Mongolian plains. It was a rough introduction to his life, to a sudden adult world, but Temujin survived, learning to combat natural and human threats. A man, a small family, without a tribe was always at risk but he gathered other outsiders to him, creating a new tribal identity. It was during some of his worst times that the image of uniting the warring tribes and bringing the silver people together came to him. He will become the khan of the sea of grass, Genghis.
this is very much like reading about Gemmells nadi horde, you can see where Gemmell drew his inspiration for Ulric. |

Skan 2 more for your list:
Harry Side bottom: Fire in the east
Ben Kane: Forgotten legion (which is excellent)
if you like sea tales:
Naomi Novik : Temeraire series (its fantasy and historical fiction blended)
0r
Juliam Stockwin, the first book takes a little getting used to the speech...but is excellent.
also a great sharpe type series: John Wilcox Simon Fonthill series |
