So, what's the general opinion on foreign language (therefore subtitled) films? Is it worth the trouble of reading the subtitles or should we just stick to our own languages?

I myself quite like some anime, I find that I don't notice the subtitles too badly after a while. I also watch quite a lot of French films, as they really help with my language.

Being Polish, I see most cinema films with subtitles, and it's not a problem, really. I got used to it. Even though good dubbing can be sometimes even better than the original. Well, with English films I don't really need subtitles, either.

Not generally a lover of subtitles, I'm too slow a reader! Sad

Having said that, I'm ever so glad I made the effort for Pan's Labyrinth. Very Happy

I remember when I went to see Hero at the cinema, the girl on the office felt she had to point out to us that it had subtitles. Damn good movie though.

I prefer subtitles to bad dubbing!

I've always found when I watch a subtitled film I end up hearing the written words instead of the froeign language. Does that make sense?

I've seen enough to not let it put me off wanting to see a film that I think will be good just because it has subtitles.

I prefer subtitles. Some of the stuff I've seen dubbed... *shudders*

But Pan's Labyrinth and Apocalypto are examples of brilliant subtitles movies.

Watched warlords last night with Jet Li , Its a great movie , all about three men who choose to be bonded through their lives in war. This movie was subtitled but i didnt notice after 5 mins and it gives me a chance to work on my chinese which is fairly poor , despite living in Asia for 3 years Embarassed

Did a lot of foreign films in film studies (funnily enough) and I really liked them. I honestly don't mind the subtitles, so long as the movie's good.

Last year of A-level we went to see Beijing Bicycle. Twas good.

I also have a hahit of watching a lot of movies like House of Flying Daggers, so i'm, pretty much up for any subtitled movie so long as the premise is good Smile

*goes back and suddenly realises just how many times I referred to things as 'good'*
