I noticed Drizzt's discussion on his namesake's books (by the way you might want to sue, them using your name and everything )
I thought I'd start a discussion on the Dragonlance books. They were a big influence on my fantasy reading as a teenager and I have a collection of over 30 of them. Some are good, some bad and some really bad, but the original three are excellent books and provide a good link between tabletop roleplaying and fantasy books.
Would be interested in what other people think as a lot of people nowadays look down on them as poor fantasy. _________________ Member and President of the Will Begman Appreciation Society.

I've got the original trilogy on my shefl waiting to be read. Started them, then got sidetracked and now mean to back to them after I'm done with the Cleric books.
First impression is I've read this kind of thing before, but then again considering the age of the books that doesn't bother me. Hehe... light and bouncy and keep me turning the pages so to me that's a good book. _________________ Pagan Music |

They were amongst the first fantasy I read too. The original trilogy was anyway. Not really read any of the others apart from dragons of summer flame and to be honest that really didn't carry the same weight as the originals. Fine piece of Dnd action though.
And Kender are still fun to play in the Dragonlance DnD setting. _________________ "Right so we're going to steal a bomb that can be remote detonated, take it back to our base and then huddle around it? That sounds like a great plan." |

I've never read any of these. Are they worth the time? _________________ Taking off is optional, landing is mandatory. |

Depends what you're after. They were written a good while ago now, but for what they are they're champion - nice, light reading which bounces along. Nothing heavy. High adventure, quests, dundeons, dragons... you'll have read very similar quite often, but these were one of the first proper series.
Give them a go... you'll find it hard not to enjoy them... it's like visiting old friends. hehe... _________________ Pagan Music |
