Literally today just finished The Warlord's Legacy by Ari Marmell. Very very good read. So is the first one, The Conqueror's Shadow, too actually.

Curently reading Hereward, by James Wilde. Debut historical novel about Hereward the Wake. Very bloody and very good so far Razz

Just finished reading Shadow's Son by Jon Sprunk and I can heartily recommend it. Assassins, intrigue, deception, betrayal, dark magic... good stuff.

Now reading Songs of the Earth by Elspeth Cooper. So far, so very good indeed.

Excellent - will have to fit that one in before Feb when I turn my attention back to the Taigethen!

I have recently read Lies of Locke Lamora by James Corey and The Conquerer's Shadow by Ari Marmell both of which were very good reads.

Shadow's Son was cool James.
Reading the follow-up Shadow's Lure and it is rather more stodgy I feel.

Have to finish this up before I turn my attention to the scribbling of some whipper-snapper I have heard about called Jimmy Barclays or something - I understand the book is about pixies or fairies or elves or some such... Cool

Finished Songs Of The Earth.

It's all right. Very well written but just that bit slow for me. Could have been a shorter and snappier book while losing nothing critical. Worth a read, though.

Now reading 'I, Partridge' which is just fantastic.

What are you doing, spending precious moments reading other people's books James? You should surely be making your way onto the (currently empty) fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square right now, reading extracts of 'Rise of the TaiGethen' to all and sundry instead?!!

(Yeah, OK, you may get arrested - but what a PR coup!)

It's a brilliant idea, Patrick. I'm on the next train with a ladder a water pistol for fending off the forces of law and a copy of the book...

By the way, forgot to mention that I also just finished 'Are we nearly there yet?' by Ben Hatch which is a true life account of a family's 8000 mile trip around the UK researching a travel guide. Full review will be up in the blog as soon as I can get it done but suffice to say it is absolutely brilliant.

For any of us with or without kids it is a cautionary but ultimately life-affirming tale.

Just reading Chris Bunch's DragonMaster Trilogy, which has a take on dragons as a kind of living warmachine and has interesting references (implied , not laboured) to WW1 and the attempts of the Royal Flying Corps to gain recognition. Great air battle action scenes too.

Apparently Bunch wrote something called The Sten Chronicles in which he showed 'the realities of politics and power and to place a working-class man into this series, letting the reader see through his eyes and watch as he grows to be a real and realistic hero' - sounds interesting ,
has anyone read these?
