Well, seeing as the seventh and final (?) Raven book is now out, I thought it only unfair of me to ask where it rates on everyone's scales... so, now, which is your favourite read?

Hmmm. Going to have to think about this. Dawnthief is up there with Demonstorm and Ravensoul. But then again Elfsorrow is amazing as we get to meet the elves.......

Decisions, decisions..... Laughing

I'd go with Elfsorrow, with Dawnthief a close second.

Short stories? Pah!

I've voted Elfsorrow because I felt it marked a step-change in my writing. And, more importantly, it gave us Auum.

But I have to say, Ravensoul is right up there. An emotional journey, writing that one...

i went with ravensoul, it just showed that James has reached a new level in his writing whilst, the other raven books are great reading, ravensoul is a journey, both exhausting and emotional....it puts him up there with DG as a writer.

Elfsorrow was top but only just. For me it just showed the depth of the characters but the willingness of James to change, grow and be daring. I read it in a single sitting and reread the first three so I could reread it again!

Dawnthief and Ravensoul were next - the former because it made me go buy every book that was available and the latter because it brought it full circle for me emotionally.
Thanks James for every bit.

For me, Demonstorm is tremendous. The continuous battles, dragons, demons, it's just heroic. I love it. So many stand out momments for me...

Saying that though, I have only just started Ravensoul, so I may vote again on completion.

Dawnthief gets my vote. A fantasy novel and writer that wasnt afraid to kill main characters off was like a bolt from the blue for me , a revelation . That excitement and really not knowing has continued through all the books , but the first one was the shocker. Very Happy

Elfsorrow for me, although I happened across Dawnthief by chance, so I've got a bit of a soft spot. Elfsorrow I my favourite because I loved meeting the Elves, and the scope of Calaius was great. I think the change in the writing was really noticeable there, and has carried over into the other books.
