Has anyone read the Philip Jose Farmer Series Riverworld?
Scifi channel have started work and a mini series if done right it could be really good the concept is great
a planet on which everyone who has ever lived on Earth up to the year 2008 finds himself resurrected one fine day. Published in 1971, the first volume in the "Riverworld"saga - "To your scattered bodies go" - is a breathtaking novel which promptly and rightly won the Hugo Award. Farmer managed to sustain the momentum in "The fabulous riverboat", but lost it a little in volume three, "The dark design", a book as thick as the first two volumes put together, but not quite as good. This superb collection, however, contains the original 86-page "Riverworld" novella.
Tahmoh Penikett has been cast in the SyFy miniseries Riverworld. Based on the popular series of five novels by the late Philip Jose Farmer, Riverworld is the Hugo award winning tale of life after death. Photojournalist Matt Ellman (Penikett) along with his fiancee (Laura Vandervoort from Smallville) are transported to a mysterious world after dying, and they discover ti is occupied by everyone who has ever lived on Earth.
Riverworld has seen life once before. In 2003 SyFy created a back-end pilot for a possible series starring Brad Johnson, Karen Holness, Emily Lloyd and Jeremy Birchall. The movie aired, but a possible series never manifested. However, it appears SyFy felt the project was worth revisiting.
Riverworld 2009 will start as a four part miniseries, but if successful could be expanded into a full-fledged series. If Dollhouse continues for a second season, Penikett will most likely remain with the Whedon series. If not, seems like he's already got his next job lined up!
Alan Cumming is set to guest star as the Caretaker; Jeananne Goossen and Mark Deklin also have been cast. |
