James gave the attendees an exercise to do, for those who wanted.

The exercise was to write a short fight scene that included the following elements:
7 people in the fight
2 survive
1 loses courage
1 comes out a hero

Three of the attendees volunteered to read out their scene and James commented on each one. All of the attendees agreed that the three scenes were good.

Here's my fight scene from the workshop.

Donall entered the dark room first, stepping to the left to join the darkness. Sensing no movement he motioned through the doorway for Saler to step behind him.
As her outline was framed in the doorway the room lit up with the brightness of 1000 candles. "Magic", Donall managed to to shout as the blindness overcame him.
The five strangers stepped forward. Four of them removed blindfolds from their eyes. The fifth fell to the floor eyes closed in agony.
Donall stepped into the middle of the room, moving as fast as possible. He drew his sword and swung it fast and wild. The four circled him, taking the stances of veteran warriors.

That's all I had time for.

It could be that I attended fraudulently as I have no inclination to write anything but I do love reading! Laughing

As ever, James was both informative and witty and the two hours passed way too quickly - I enjoyed every minute of it! Very Happy

Just don't offer to buy Sir Robin a drink - a Jack Daniels and Coke in each hand, young kids these days, I don't know..... Laughing

I wanted to do this, but writing 'long hand' is something I've grown out of the habit of doing well (been years since I wrote like that at uni or college). Now I'm back in front of PCs and my laptop, I'll be posting mine shortly. I plan to follow James' advice of having the start and the finish sorted in my head, then just writing it without stopping, for ten minutes....

Looking forward to reading it Drizzt. Maybe other forum members who weren't there want to have a go as well.

Alas, I paid for them both - don't know whether it was the lack of clarity in my diction or her cloth ears Very Happy It just seemed easier not to argue and I had a sneaking suspicion that you could manage both! Surprised
